U.S. House Candidate Pam Gulleson joined U.S. Senate Candidate Heidi Heitkamp and Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee Senator Debbie Stabenow today at an agriculture forum in Fargo.

"You know what we need and what would help?" said Sen. Stabenow. "A Congressperson from North Dakota jumping up and down on the floor of the House saying, "We need a Farm Bill.'"

"I will be that advocate in the House for North Dakota's farmers and ranchers," said Gulleson. "I'm in full agreement with Sen. Stabenow that we need to get a Farm Bill passed as soon as possible. Without a Farm Bill, North Dakota agriculture producers will be placed in a precarious position as they plan for the coming year."

Much of the conversation focused on the face that unless it is passed in a timely way, the Farm Bill could also be subject to sequestration, which could mean huge cuts for essential programs like crop insurance.

"Last year over 6 million acres of crops went unplanted in North Dakota due to natural disasters in the state. But this spring our farmers were able to get in their tractors and put in a crop, because they had crop insurance," said Gulleson. "The Farm Bill program we had in place made sure that one devastating year didn't derail the family farmers in our state."
