Washington's irresponsible pattern of borrowing and spending has put our country on a road to bankruptcy. Unbelievably, America borrows $188 million every hour.

This is simply unacceptable.

That's why the first bill I introduced in Congress was a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. It simply demands that the federal government does not spend more than it takes in. If 49 out of 50 states, including our home state of Florida, have balanced budget requirements, why should Washington be any different?

The time has come to put aside partisanship and make the tough choices necessary to balance the budget for taxpayers today and future generations.
