Update on Interior Border Patrol Closings

Location: Unknown

Last week, Congress denied an initial request from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to move forward with the shutdown of nine interior Border Patrol stations, including those in Lubbock and Abilene. They may not be border cities, but they are important backstops in the effort to keep our country secure. The Department of Homeland Security has yet to demonstrate how reallocating these resources will be more efficient than maintaining a presence further north. Until I see numbers that show that this strategy won't ultimately result in fewer arrests, I will continue to oppose the closures of these stations.
