Date: July 24, 2012
Location: Garden City, NY

This week, 946 people signed in to Rep. Carolyn McCarthy's Long Island Job Fair, where they were connected with 38 employers, the New York State Department of Labor and the local non-profit Hempstead Works.

Local and regional employers who attended the July 23 fair included Cablevision, Citibank, Fidelis Care, Hofstra University, Macy's Roosevelt Field, the Nassau County Police Department, New York Life, South Nassau Communities Hospital and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

"We still have a long way to go in our economic recovery and I'm doing everything I can to make sure that Long Islanders have access to local jobs," said McCarthy, who is focusing on measures and events that help small businesses, entrepreneurs, students and workers as the nation continues its path to economic recovery.

In December, Rep. McCarthy held a career expo that focused on Long Island's health care industry, from which over 20 employers participated. Other major economy-related forums she has held in this Congress includes ones focusing on tax cuts for small businesses; how small businesses can benefit from the U.S. Export-Import Bank; and what career training opportunities are available at local educational institutions.
