Rep. Fudge Votes to Preserve Health Care Access and Patient Protection

Once again, House Republicans voted to reduce or take away patient protections and against upholding the health and economic security of the middle class and all those entitled to healthcare. Today, Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge stood for protecting the important gains in access to affordable health care for millions of Americans and her constituents in Ohio's 11th District, by voting against the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has improved and enhanced the health of America's families and workers. Among the benefits made possible by this legislation to residents of the 11th District include:

20,000 children and 80,000 adults now have health insurance that covers preventive services without paying any co-pays, coinsurance, or deductibles.

62,000 seniors in the district received Medicare preventive services without paying any co-pays, coinsurance, or deductibles.

6,700 seniorsin the district received prescription drug discounts worth $3.3 million, an average discount of $490 per senior.

4,100 young adultsin the district now have health insurance because they are allowed to stay on their parents' insurance till age 26.

470 small businesses in the district received tax credits to help maintain or expand health care coverage for their employees.

$4 millionin public health grants have been given to community health centers, hospitals, doctors, and other healthcare providers in the district to improve the community's health.

"The people I represent - hardworking parents, seniors struggling on fixed incomes and young people starting their careers - they all want Congress to focus on creating jobs, ending outsourcing and improving the economic climate. Instead, Republican leaders have chosen to waste time by reversing the progress made to provide affordable health care for more Americans. Enough is enough. Let's get back to the priorities that will strengthen the middle class, not weaken it," said Congresswoman Fudge.
