Gardner to FEMA: Consider county request for more aid

Press Release

Location: Fort Collins, Colorado

Congressman Cory Gardner is calling on the Federal Emergency Management Agency to consider Larimer County's request for additional disaster aid in the aftermath of the High Park Fire.

"It is important for FEMA to understand that the damage caused by the High Park Fire is not just an isolated event," Gardner said. "Any ensuing rainfall could contain pollutants from the fire, and water treatment plants in Fort Collins and Greeley are not equipped to treat water of that poor quality. This poses a significant public health risk."

Larimer County officials have repeatedly expressed their concerns to local FEMA representatives about the secondary damage to roads and water treatment infrastructure. Echoing those concerns, Gardner says he hopes that FEMA will take the necessary steps to protect the health and safety of northern Colorado residents.

Today Gardner is also meeting with Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith, Larimer County Commissioner Tom Donnelly and Larimer County Recovery Manager Gary Darling to discuss the High Park Fire recovery effort.
