Congresswoman Laura Richardson Announces Grant Award of $4.9 Million to California Manufacturing Technology Consulting

Today, Congresswoman Laura Richardson announced the Department of Commerce (DOC) will award $4.9 million in funding to California Manufacturing Technology Consulting (CMTC). CMTC is receiving this grant through The Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP). MEP works with small and mid-sized U.S. manufacturers to help them create and retain jobs, increase profits, and save time and money.

The Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) under the Department of Commerce (DOC), offers its clients a wealth of unique and effective resources centered on five critical areas: technology acceleration, supplier development, sustainability, workforce and continuous improvement. Manufacturers that accelerate innovation are far more successful and realize greater opportunities to participate in the global economy. MEP serves an essential role sustaining and growing America's manufacturing base.

CMTC has been a proud member of the Torrance community, part of my District, since 2006. CMTC develops and deploys technology, management and technical expertise for improving the competitiveness of manufacturing for small and medium-sized companies. These companies are critical to California, representing 90 percent of job growth for high-paying jobs. For every new manufacturing job created or retained, there are 3-5 supporting jobs.

CMTC has worked with over 1800 small and medium sized companies in Southern California and has branched out into other industries such as healthcare and defense. In the past three years CMTC has launched new programs to help manufacturers start or expand their export programs and supplied services to manufacturers to alleviate layoff aversions.
