Stark Announces $10.8 Million in Grants to Benefit East Bay Commuters

Today, Rep. Pete Stark (CA-13) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation will award two grants totaling $10.8 million to improve BART's regional real-time transit information at intermodal BART stations and AC Transit's fare box system replacement project.

Rep. Stark: "I am very pleased that BART and AC Transit will receive this important funding. These grants will support the expansion of real-time transit information available to riders and replacement of old fare boxes. Both will improve the commuter experience and ensure more efficient public transit throughout our region."

BART will be awarded $3.1 million through the U. S. Department of Transportation's 2012 Bus Livability Program to fund real-time transit information at intermodal BART stations. The project will provide up to 17 additional real-time bus and rail departure and arrival information boards at key intermodal BART stations.

AC Transit will be awarded $7.5 million through the Department of Transportation's 2012 State of Good Repair Program to fund fare box system replacement.
