WASHINGTON, D.C.-U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins today announced nearly $7,543,906 in federal funding to continue Head Start programs around the state. The funding, which comes through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will help fund child care and handicapped services.

"Head Start provides our neediest children with the services they need to get a jump start in their education," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "We applaud the continued funding for these programs that offer a variety of services to improve the readiness of young children, contributing to their long-term success in life."
