Mounting student loan debt is a serious problem David Gill knows Congress must tackle. Thirty years ago when David was an undergrad and then a medical student at U of I, he was able to work his way through school and leave with a reasonable amount of debt. But today's undergrads are leaving school with a diploma, limited job prospects and an average of $20,0000 in student loan debt.

David Gill is outraged that the Republican-led Congress is threatening to make those student loans even costlier. Speaker Boehner is refusing to vote on a bill that would keep the interest rate on Stafford loans from doubling. David believes ensuring access to an affordable college education shouldn't be a partisan political issue. It's a matter of economic survival for the middle class and should be treated as a national priority, not a political football.

Dr. Gill also believes we should shift from loans to more grants and scholarships, especially in the critical fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). We can't afford to fall behind China, India, South Korea and other nations in these areas. Making investments in the next generation of entrepreneurs will pay off big for America in the future.
