Georgia's tax code has not been seriously reformed since Jimmy Carter's administration. We need to overhaul our tax code. I favor a "Fair Tax"-like system for Georgia, a retail based tax system to replace our current income tax. A larger rainy day fund would be needed to "smooth out" the ups and downs of sales taxes, but with fiscal discipline this could be accomplished. Currently, nine States have no income tax and Georgia needs to eliminate its income tax in order to be competitive with our neighbors like Tennessee and Florida.
