Plummer Releases Statement on June Jobs Report

Statement

Date: July 6, 2012

Jason Plummer, Republican Nominee for Illinois' 12th Congressional District, called Friday's jobs report unacceptable and a sign that the country is still headed in the wrong direction.

"The June jobs report is further proof that president and his liberal allies' massive spending has not revived the economy like they promised," Plummer said. "To create a robust economy, we need to get government out of the way and let the American people do what they do best."

The Labor Department's report showed that the U.S. economy only created 80,000 jobs in June, far below the 150,000 jobs that need to be created each month to keep up with population growth. Specifically, private-sector job growth also dramatically fell from 105,000 in May to 84,000 in June. The report also showed that the national unemployment rate failed to improve, and has now been north of 8 percent for 41 consecutive months.

"The unemployment rate is not just a number- it represents ours neighbors, friends, and family members who cannot find work," Plummer said. "Our economy is being held back by uncertainty about Obamacare and the unnecessary regulations on energy producers, family farms, and small businesses. Our workers and employers deserve better.

"To get Southern Illinois working again, we must get government out of the way and let our coal miners mine, farmers farm, and job creators create jobs," Plummer added. "The contrast in this election is clear. My opponent has admitted that he stands with President Obama and Nancy Pelosi and their job-destroying policies. I stand with our workers and small businessmen in opposing burdensome regulations, fees, and taxes that only hinder job creation and opportunity in Southern Illinois.

"In Congress, I will work to repeal and replace the harmful Obamacare legislation and fight to bring prosperity back to Southern Illinois."
