Young votes to repeal Obamacare, says goal is to replace with better legislation

Rep. Todd Young (R-IN9) voted for a full repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act--the 2010 law better known as Obamacare--on Wednesday as H.R. 6079, the Repeal Obamacare Act, passed the House on a 244-185 vote.

It was the 31st vote in the House to repeal all or part of the law, but Young--who co-sponsored the bill--noted that replacing the law with legislation to improve the health care system is just as important as outright repeal.

"Simply put, this law is bad public policy," said Young. "It has not done anything to control the cost of health care, it interferes with the doctor-patient relationship, and it is damaging to our economy at a time we can least afford it. Washington needs to address the very real problems that confront the American people--primarily the cost of, and access to, medical care. This vote to repeal the law is a first step towards replacing Obamacare with measures that actually control costs and increase access to care while preserving the best health care delivery system in the world. I look forward to working on those issues, and--in contrast to how this law came about--in an open, public, and bipartisan way."
