Black: Full Repeal of Obamacare Prevents Crippling Tax on Middle Class

Statement

Date: July 11, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Congressman Diane Black (R-TN) released the following statement on her vote in support of the Repeal of ObamaCare Act, H.R. 6079. Rep. Black is an original cosponsor of this legislation.

"As a small businesswoman and nurse for over 40 years, I believe that Obamacare is a disaster for our economy and health care, and it must be repealed -- immediately. The law's new regulations, taxes and mandates have dealt a devastating blow to our economy. With all of the higher costs and uncertainty, it is not surprising that three-quarters of small businesses -- the bedrock of the US economy -- say the law is preventing them from hiring people. All this and health-care costs are skyrocketing. To make matters worse, millions of Americans will be dropped from their employers' health insurance plans and pushed onto government-run health insurance, resulting in even more deficit spending.

"The president says he does not want to raise taxes on the middle class, and that he wants Congress to focus on job creation and the economy. Mr. President, the House has voted yet again to do just that. By repealing Obamacare, we will prevent a crippling tax hike on the middle class and lift the cloud of uncertainty and other job-killing taxes from reeking further havoc on our economy and health care. It is long past time for the Senate and the president to follow the House's lead and strike down this disastrous law."
