Congressman Tim Scott (SC-01) released the following statement in advance of Independence Day tomorrow.

"Today we celebrate something bigger than ourselves. For nearly two and a half centuries, the United States of America has stood as a beacon of democracy, hope and freedom. Many have sacrificed to help build the greatest nation the world has ever known, and for that we owe them our endless gratitude.

Although we face significant challenges currently, the light in front of us is still bright. The spirit of the American people will never be broken; it will instead continue to strengthen everyday. Our ingenuity, courage and dedication to creating a better life for not just ourselves, but our children and grandchildren, remains unmatched anywhere.

So as we celebrate our Independence Day, I offer a simple thank you. Thank you to our Founding Fathers for having the vision to see what freedom could bring. Thank you to every man and woman who has fought to defend our nation. And thank you to the American people, who continue to stand as the backbone of a country that is the envy of the world."
