National Unemployment Rate Remains at 8.2 Percent

Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today released the following statement after the release of the June employment report:

"This disappointing report shows that the economy remains weak and that President Obama's policies are not effective. I continue to hear from families and business owners in Northern Michigan that the uncertainty in the economy is preventing them from moving forward.

With a national unemployment rate of 8.2 percent, the private sector is clearly not doing fine, as President Obama has suggested. Instead of implementing temporary relief, Congress needs to work toward reforms that provide permanent relief such as lowering taxes both for families and small business owners.

I know the American Dream is alive in our great nation. We need new policies to protect our dreams and goals, and allow us to thrive. I am committed to that fight so that current and future generations can pursue their own American Dream, just as I did. It will never be easy to achieve the American Dream, but I am a firm believer that with hard work, anything is possible. The time has come for new leadership and a change of policies in Washington."
