Issue Position: My Pledge

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

As your next State Senator, I will work for all citizens in the 19th District and pledge the following:

1. I will not support legislation or initiatives which cause our state government to spend more than we make in tax revenue

*I will not support raising taxes or assessing new taxes to justify overspending beyond our means
*I will work to strengthen, support and abide by the constitutional spending cap

2. I will not support legislation or initiatives which cause our state to borrow more than it can pay back

*We must cap bonding levels which result in a debt service of no more than 10% of the annual budget
*Borrowing should be prioritized and restricted for public works projects, including school construction, roads and rails, serving the greater public good, and creating jobs for Connecticut workers
*Eliminate earmarks and fund all projects by competitive grant to be awarded based upon measured return on investment i.e., job creation/economic development and long-term value

3. I will fully support getting rid of programs that are broken, redundant, costly, and do not provide a return on taxpayer investment

*All State Government programs must be results-driven and conform to aggressive periods of review. If it is not achieving stated results, the program must be eliminated.

4. I pledge to work on return our State Government to its founding principles… a government by the people and for the people… with no overreach and uncontrolled growth

*Our government should be limited in both size and scope
*We must focus on our core responsibilities with no mission creep
*We must delegate to private entities our non-core functions

5. I pledge to set the conditions for businesses to grow and flourish

*Government does not create jobs, business men and women do
*93% of new jobs are created by small businesses with less than 50 employees
*I pledge to eliminate program's such as the "Busway to nowhere" which serve only to reward crony capitalism and do not provide for sustained business growth in our state

6. Our government must regain the public trust, and I pledge my utmost to ensure our government puts integrity first, regains your trust and never again loses it

*We must form an independent ethics committee as 48 other states have
*We must hire an Inspector General with the power to subpoena and investigate fraud
