Small businesses are the engines that drive our economy and are the true job creators in Grand Rapids. We must make Michigan the best place in the nation to do business and that starts with removing the obstacles that prevent entrepreneurs from succeeding. A good start to making our state more business-friendly would be repealing the Michigan Business Tax surcharge.
I will work to help small and medium-sized businesses, not big corporations that are shipping jobs out of our state. As Kent County Commissioner, I demanded that local companies get preference for local government contracts and I will take that same mindset to Lansing. Michigan tax dollars should create jobs for Michigan workers, and as a state we need to continue to invest in our workers and our communities and support businesses that do the same.
