A Quality Education for our Children

As summer vacation starts for our schoolchildren, it's a good time to take a minute and ask ourselves if we are doing all we can to ensure that they get the quality education they need to become successful. Investing in education and our public schools is one of the best uses of our resources -- for our economy and our future. Since the 21st Century economy has become a global economy we need to make sure we provide our children with a quality education, an education that will enable our children to compete with global competition. Unfortunately the current economic downturn has forced many schools to cut back on public education funding and teachers. This is being done when competition from around the world is rising.

I feel that we should be providing more educational support to our public schools and educating our children so that they can compete in a rapidly changing economy. I believe that we need people in Lansing who know the resources our educational system needs to ensure the success for our children.

Our public schools need to be strong, vibrant and provide students with the skills they need to lead in the 21st Century economy. Increasing our children's skill base is important to making our children successful in todays our workforce. When you send me to Lansing, I am going to make sure that Northern Michigan has a voice supporting quality public education for our children and families.
