A diversified economy. One of the beauties of focusing on small business development is a diversified economy. As each entrepreneur chooses his or her particular specialty they are also helping to diversify the local economy. West Virginians have seen in the past what downturns in the coal, timber or tourism industries can do to local economies. While we want to continue supporting our key industries, the broader our economy is, the less likely a downturn in one particular industry will have a devastating effect on our state.

We need to be prepared for the inevitable problems created by the $15+ Trillion national debt caused by the irresponsible behavior of BOTH parties in Washington. Currently federal spending is a major part of West Virginia's economy. (Over 30%) Creating a strong, vibrant, private local economy is the best way we can meet the massive foreseeable reductions in federal spending.
