Dr. Rogers Comments on Today's Supreme Court Decision

Statement

Dr. Lee Rogers, candidate for US Congress, released the following statement on the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:

"Today's Supreme Court decision is bittersweet. The Supreme Court upheld the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in its entirety, including the controversial individual mandate to purchase health insurance.

"The good news is that people who have already benefited from the law will continue to benefit. But the bad news is that the law still needs to be fixed. No law is perfect, but this one benefits the big health insurance companies like no other. The law prevents insurers from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions, but it doesn't put a cap on premiums. Although you can't be denied coverage, you can still be priced out of the market, essentially accomplishing the same thing. Going forward, we need to have at least one option for patients that insurance companies don't control.

"Rep. Buck McKeon concentrates on the politics of the law, not the policy. He's offered no solutions for our health care problems other than repealing Obamacare/. As a doctor, I treat patients who suffer from serious medical problems that cause serious financial side effects. Health care is one sixth of the US economy. We need a Representative who offers real solutions, not just partisan rhetoric and obstructionism."
