Congresswoman Laura Richardson Statement on the Supreme Court's Ruling on Arizona v. the United States

Congresswoman Laura Richardson released the following statement today after the Supreme Court struck down three out of four key provisions of Arizona's anti-immigration law (SB 1070):

"As one of the members of Congress who submitted an amicus curiae brief urging the High Court to invalidate the Arizona law, I am pleased that the Supreme Court struck down the majority of Arizona's immigration law. I, however, am disappointed that the Court upheld the law's notorious 'show-me-your-papers' provision. This provision can be abused and subjects legal American citizens, minorities and immigrants to unlawful racial profiling and may have the effect of pushing families, workers, and senior citizens into the criminal justice system."

"The Supreme Court's ruling is an urgent reminder of the need for Congress to enact comprehensive immigration reform, which secures our borders and maintain America's heritage as a welcoming land of opportunity for persons of every race and nationality. I will keep fighting until this goal is achieved."
