Congresswoman Laura Richardson Announces Grant Award to Salvation Army to Help Homeless Veterans in Long Beach

Today Congresswoman Laura Richardson announced that the Salvation Army has been awarded a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to help homeless veterans in Long Beach. This grant falls under the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) and provides veterans with job training to help them succeed in civilian careers.

"After they have risked their lives and made unimaginable sacrifices in service of our nation, many veterans return home to face bouts of homelessness and unemployment," said Congresswoman Richardson. "I am happy to announce that this grant program is helping the 37th
Congressional District better address this pressing need by providing the resources necessary to help our former, current and future veterans adjust to life outside of the military," said Congresswoman Richardson.

This award marks the third consecutive year that Long Beach has received funding from HVRP. Congresswoman Richardson has also led efforts to secure appropriations for similar grant programs, including the recently awarded HUD-VASH grant, which offers housing vouchers and case management to homeless veterans, and the Veterans Transportation and Community Initiative, which improves access to public transportation systems.
