I am greatly concerned about the rising cost of college tuition. The problem is made worse by the fact that more and more jobs require a college degree. By allowing this to continue, we are essentially creating a second-tier in our society, consisting mostly of the least affluent citizens. - In Michigan, we have put forth the Michigan 2020 Plan, which would provide college tuition for all of our high school graduates. The grant will be funded by eliminating ineffective tax credits that do not create jobs, examining all existing state contracts to cut out waste and closing loopholes in the tax code exploited by corporations. A mere 5% savings in these areas will fully fund the grants. This plan would put Michigan at the forefront of the nation in terms of investing in our children's education, attracting business investment and retaining much-needed talent. - Nationally, I support working to limit tuition increases and applaud President Obama for his efforts in this area. I envision America returning to the pinnacle of innovation and ingenuity by committing ourselves to educating our young people; I believe Michigan can be the catalyst for this change.
