Renacci Statement on Independence Day

Statement

Date: July 3, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Jim Renacci (OH-16) released the following statement recognizing the 236th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence:

"The Declaration of Independence laid out the basis for American democracy. Our founding -- based on individual liberty -- is what makes us truly unique in the world. Never before had a nation been created from the idea that the government derived its power from the governed. That principle of self-determination has allowed America to become the most vibrant society and economy in human history. Without the relentless American spirit that comes with it, I would have no hope that we as a nation would be able to dig our way out of the rut we now find ourselves in. Because of it, I know America's brightest days are ahead of us.

"As we pause to celebrate the 236th anniversary of America's birth, we must remember the millions of Americans who sacrificed throughout our history to ensure our nation remains a beacon of hope in a troubled world. And we can never forget those who stand ready to defend America today. As you spend time with family and friends please keep in mind the brave men and women of our military stationed all over the world and their loved ones waiting patiently for their safe return."

Rep. Renacci is serving his first term in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he is a member of the Financial Services Committee. Prior to his election he worked as a Certified Public Accountant in the health care industry, and owned and operated over 60 other businesses in the automotive and sports management fields.
