Roby Announces "Mac" Tolar as Military Legislative Counsel

U.S. Representative Martha Roby announced today that John McIntyre "Mac" Tolar will serve as the new Military Legislative Counsel in her Washington, D.C. office. Tolar is a Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) of the United States Marine Corps Reserve.

"We are fortunate to have Mac join our team. His years of military service will have a direct impact on our efforts to ensure that the service members of our district are well represented in Congress. In addition to his work with the House Armed Services Committee, Mac will also be a voice for our veterans. I am proud to have such a qualified and patriotic Marine serving the residents of the Second District."

As the Military Legislative Counsel, Tolar will provide insight and counsel for Representative Roby on issues that shape the defense and military policies under consideration in the House Armed Services Committee and in Congress. Additionally, Tolar will handle a legislative portfolio to include Banking/Finance, Foreign Policy, Tax, and Transportation issues.

Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Tolar retired from the United States Marine Corps Reserve after 20 years of service. During his military career, Tolar served an Infantry Officer and Judge Advocate. His service included deployments in support of Desert Shield/Storm and the Global War on Terror. Tolar attained a Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina and a member of the South Carolina Bar. In addition, he is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Tolar recently left private law practice in Columbia, South Carolina, and relocated to Washington, D.C., when his wife was named Staff Director and Chief Counsel for the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs. Tolar, his wife Helen, and their three children Walker, Mary McIntyre, and Oliver, currently reside in Washington, D.C.
