During the past year, there has been divisiveness and finger pointing instead of focusing on the kids to ensure they are receiving the best education we can offer. When it comes to schools and cost, we all have to acknowledge the need to restructure public employee benefits, without placing the blame on teachers. My daughter, daughter in law and father in-law are teachers and my kids grew up hearing about a former teacher who was a great role model in my life who helped encourage me to succeed. My focus will be to work with all involved to provide the best affordable education we can for our kids. I think it is important we ensure our tax dollars are going into the classrooms, not the boardroom and administration.
I sit on a board for a non-profit organization, Community Parent which was created by Fenton Township Clerk Bob Krug and Trustee Tony Brown. We have worked very closely with the Sheriff's office to bring presentations of "Chasing the Dragon" to our public school systems. "Chasing the Dragon" is an anti-drug presentation focused on prevention rather than costly and difficult rehabilitation.
