GI Bill for the 21st Century -- Congressman Bishop is a supporter of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, a bill that provides tuition relief, job training, and related incentives to our returning veterans. Since the passage of this bill in 2008, Congress has provided a framework to reward returning military personnel for their service to our country.

Cutting Tricare Fees -- Tim Bishop has consistently voted to prevent veterans from paying higher TRICARE fees for health care. The Congressman supports legislation that strengthens access to health care for our military personnel and veterans, and does not believe that the budget should be balanced on the backs of veterans and military families.

Tax Cuts to Hire Veterans -- Congressman Bishop voted to provide employers incentives to hire unemployed veterans. He supported both the Returning Heroes Tax Credit, giving employers a tax credit to hire unemployed veterans and the Wounded Warriors Tax Credit, which gives employers a tax credit for hiring veterans with disabilities who have been unemployed for six months or more.

Prohibiting "Burn Pits" -- Congressman Bishop is a leader in the fight against the military disposing toxic chemicals in open air burn pits, a hazard that can cause serious respiratory problems for the service members exposed to the fumes.

Congressman Bishop was recognized by the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) with a grade of "A" on their annual report card for his advocacy on key issues such as ending homeless among veterans, modernizing the VA's disability claims process and instituting advanced appropriations for VA health programs.
