Issue Position: Home Ownership

The HAMP program has not done what it was supposed to do. Asking the banks to voluntarily work with home owners has been an utter failure. I believe that no homeowner should lose their home just because they lost their job or suffered a sudden illness. There is a Home Owner Protection Plan in Pennsylvania which I think should be extended to the entire nation. It basically adds missed payments for those who lose their jobs or suffer a major illness to the back end of the mortgage. The bank is paid any missed payments when the homeowner sells the home. This is a win-win program for banks and homeowners keeping home prices more stable in Pennsylvania with fewer foreclosures than in the rest of the nation. I believe that every child has a right to a warm cozy home and every parent has a right to a job which will allow them to provide for their family and be a productive member of our nation. We must stop throwing thousands of families out on the street just so billionaires can buy bigger boats.
