Statement by Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington on Today's Supreme Court Affordable Care Act Ruling

Statement

Date: June 28, 2012

"The problem facing America is that Americans will spend more than $2.5 trillion for health care this year. With today's ruling the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has upheld the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Their ruling means American families will have stable and secure health insurance coverage.

"Those who have a pre-existing medical condition won't be denied coverage; sons and daughters can stay under their parents' coverage until they are 26.

"A person will not lose her coverage if she loses her job, and if health care coverage is not provided at work, affordable coverage will still be made available.

"Now is not a time for Washington's continued partisan spinning and fighting. I urge Congressman Rick Crawford to reject his leader's pointless and hyper-political vote to repeal the ACA. It's not helpful.

"Instead, the Congressman should use his office to help our families, friends and neighbors understand the basic facts and learn what exactly is provided by the Act."
