Menendez, Lautenberg Announce More than $540,000 Investment in Transportation Services for Morris County Veterans

U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Frank R. Lautenberg today announced that Morris County will receive $543,000 to develop a "one-click, one-call" Transportation Resource Center to coordinate local transportation services for more than 25,000 veterans and improve access to the Lyons Veterans Administration Healthcare Center, the East Orange Veterans Administration Healthcare Center and the Morris Township Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic.

"For many military families living in our suburban communities, long commutes and more limited public transportation can make getting to work, the supermarket, or medical appointments both tough and expensive," said Menendez. "For thousands of our veterans, Morris County's 'one-click, one-call' center will put a full range of reliable transportation resources just a phone call or mouse click away."

"New Jersey veterans deserve easy, affordable access to VA health centers and public transportation they can rely on," said Senator Lautenberg, an Army veteran. "This federal grant will help create a user-friendly information system to help thousands of veterans save time and money accessing health care services."

The Morris County initiative was selected through a highly competitive process and the funding comes through the Veterans Transportation and Community Living Initiative at the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Morris County will use the funds to build a "one-click, one-call" center that offers comprehensive information on local transportation options, and other community services, with just a single phone call or click of the mouse. Typically, such information is not available in one convenient place, and better local coordination will result in better services for veterans and nonveterans alike.
