Plummer Criticizes His Opponent for Lack of Knowledge on Cap and Trade

Jason Plummer criticized his opponent today for his lack of knowledge about a pressing issue that directly affects the residents of the 12th Congressional District.

In his July 2 press conference, Bill Enyart said he "hasn't researched the economics of (Cap and Trade legislation)" when asked where he stands on putting a price on carbon emissions.

Plummer said his opponent's statement is "out-of-touch" with the concerns of Southern Illinois voters.

"Over the past few years, bureaucrats from Washington have assaulted Southern Illinois' supply of natural resources through Environmental Protection Agency regulations, political games involving the Keystone XL Pipeline, and harmful Cap and Trade legislation," Plummer said. "It's unfortunate that my opponent is unaware of the damage that these policies would do to the already decimated energy industry of the district."

Plummer added that as Congressman, he will take on the EPA and those that threaten Southern Illinois' energy production jobs.

"Burdensome energy regulations have already cost Southern Illinois thousands of jobs," Plummer said. "These policies would cost the District's residents even more jobs and make the U.S. even more dependent on foreign energy. How can you be serious about creating jobs in Southern Illinois when you are not willing to stand up against Cap and Trade?"
