Employment is increasing with 80,000 new jobs created in Michigan in 2011, but we have a long way to go. You don't create jobs by punishing job creators. You create jobs by creating economic security. Our people deserve an economic climate that promotes and rewards those who invest in us. The first decade of this century didn't work. It's time to continue in our new direction.
Our state is back on a solid financial footing now that we got rid of accounting gimmicks, stopped relying on federal stimulus dollars, ended a lot of wasteful state government spending and made reasonable long term spending decisions. Families have learned to tighten their belt and the state needs to continue to do the same. It starts with accountability.
