Issue Position: Reform Costly Health Insurance Mandates

Issue Position

Location: Unknown

Today, a half million citizens in Washington State are without health insurance. In 2014, under Affordable Health Care Act, these patients will be eligible to be on the Medicaid system. This will put tremendous pressure on an already fragile system. There is already a shortage of doctors willing to take on new Medicaid patients. We can fix this crisis by reducing the cost of health insurance and providing incentives for Washington residents to take control of their health with personal responsibility. While healthy food choices and regular exercise is something government cannot mandate, everyone would benefit from a healthier society. We all need to get off the couch! Today, there are 44 insurance mandates in Washington. That needs to change. Why should an elderly couple be required to pay for maternity insurance long after their reproductive years?

* Allow consumers to shop for health insurance across state lines

*Reduce the number of mandates required by law

*Promote health insurance plans with coverage choices

*Lower the costs of health care for everyone

*Insurance discounts for healthy lifestyles
