Dear Friend of Agriculture,
I wanted to share with you information about new legislation, the Farm Tax Parity Act, that I introduced today to protect Illinois farmers from an overly aggressive IRS and ensure all Illinois farmers are treated fairly.
I have heard from a number of my local farmers and farm bureaus that they are being aggressively and unfairly targeted by IRS audits on rental income. The IRS currently operates in an inconsistent way in different parts of the country which unfairly penalizes farmers in Illinois, but right across the Mississippi River in Missouri the IRS is operating under a completely different set of rules. All farmers in the U.S. deserve to be treated the same way and should not be discriminated against due to the location of their farm. The same rules should apply to everyone.
Below is more information about my Farm Tax Parity Act that explains how my bill prevents the IRS from going after Illinois farmers.
I hope you will consider sharing with your friends and colleagues and all those who might be impacted by the IRS's actions.
