Tim Kaine Criticizes Delay of Flood Insurance Bill Over Personhood Provision

Richmond, VA - In response to the delay of the flood insurance bill by Senator Rand Paul's inclusion of an unrelated 'personhood' provision, former governor and U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine released the following statement:
"I strongly oppose the attempt by Senator Paul to inject this divisive social issue into an essential piece of legislation like the flood insurance bill. By tacking on a social agenda that only seeks to divide constituencies and push the two parties further apart, Senator Paul is promoting the same kind of gridlock that Virginians continue to reject.

"Just like Senator Paul, my opponent, George Allen, advocates federal "personhood' legislation that could jeopardize the legality of some types of birth control. These social battles were settled long ago and rehashing them won't create a single job, build a single school, or construct a single road. It's time for politicians in Washington to abandon these partisan agendas and instead focus on finding common ground to create jobs and grow our economy."
