Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-39) released the following statement today after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that three out of four key provisions of Arizona's SB 1070 law were unconstitutional:
"I have always believed Arizona's law was unconstitutional, and I am pleased that the Supreme Court rejected most of the key provisions of SB 1070. However, I am troubled that the Court voted to uphold the requirement that local law enforcement check the immigration status of anyone they feel might be in this country illegally. This misguided provision will lead to racial profiling and discrimination, which violate our country's values.
"Today's ruling does make it clear that we need a comprehensive, federal solution that puts in place a rational, safe and efficient immigration process. The American people deserve an immigration system that will support our communities and make it possible for millions of young people to contribute to the country they already call home."
