Issues: Energy

We simply cannot continue with our reliance on fossil fuels, and Missouri is poised to be a leader in the areas of renewable energy. Research at facilities like the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center (located just outside the 71st district) is pointing the way toward cost effective biofuels. We need to find more ways to encourage investment in these efforts as well as alternative energies like wind power and the next (safer) generation of nuclear power. And speaking of wind power, if you haven't noticed already, this web site is eco-friendly:

Missouri University of Science and Technology, formerly the University of Missouri-Rolla, is one of the world's leading technological research universities and the faculty there is often at the forefront of environmental advancement.

I want to make Missouri a leader in environmental responsibility and innovation.

Missouri is already an acknowledged leader in the area of conservation. Moreover, the efforts by the Missouri Department of Conservation and their many non-profit partners have saved Missouri taxpayers considerable amounts of dollars. For example, you may be familiar with the intersection of Interstates 270 and 44. Besides being a boon to birds and other wildlife, the prairie restoration at that giant intersection (with native plant and bushes) has lowered maintenance costs by more than 75 percent.

I will work to make native landscaping part of all state
construction projects, both for infrastructure and buildings.
