Mr. President:

I am so proud that California's Moorpark High School students are once again the United States Academic Decathlon Champions. The nine students and their coach, Larry Jones, have once again set an example for their peers through hard work and perseverance.

I am writing to urge you to invite the 2003 champions and their faculty advisors to the White House in recognition of this exceptional achievement. In 1999, the winning Moorpark High School Decathlon team visited the White House. I know that this year's team would be thrilled to have the same opportunity.

During the national finals, some of the brightest students in the nation spend two grueling days taking tests, writing essays, delivering speeches, and giving personal interviews. The enthusiasm and dedication to learning shown by the Moorpark team makes them role models for young people in California and across our nation.

Please consider joining me and the many Californians celebrating the accomplishments of Moorpark High School's exceptional students by inviting them to the White House. I would be pleased to assist in arranging this visit.
Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer
