Reining in the Federal Government
When I took a Regulations Tour visiting Lowcountry businesses, it became crystal clear the effect burdensome regulations have on job creation and South Carolina families. For example, an email from a constituent in North Charleston brought to light new energy restrictions on home fireplaces which could cost at least 10,000 jobs nationally. That's right -- the federal government wants to regulate your living room.
Recent polls have indicated 40 percent of small business owners are hampered in their ability to create jobs because of regulations like this. Action must be taken. The federal government can't create jobs, but it certainly can destroy them.
The President's political goals cannot be what drives our regulatory environment. We need smart regulations that protect public health and ensure consumer protections without destroying our economy -- not Washington bureaucrats pushing papers to fit an agenda.
I support the following measures to fight out-of-control regulation:
Regulations From the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act (HR 10)
10th Amendment Regulatory Reform Act (HR 455)
Federal Reserve Transparency Act (HR 459)
Regulatory Openness, Accountability, and Disclosure to Jobs Act (HR 1049)
RCCRA Act (HR 1391)
Home Construction Lending Regulatory Improvement Act (HR 1755)
EPA Regulatory Relief Act (HR 2250)
Coal Residuals Reuse and Management Act (HR 2273)
Government Results Transparency Act (HR 3262)
Financial Institutions Examination Fairness and Reform Act (HR 3461)
Executive Appointments Reform Act (HR 3770)
Regulatory Flexibility Improvements Act (H.R. 527)
TRAIN Act (Transparency in Regulatory Analysis of Impacts on the Nation) (HR 2401)
Regulatory Accountability Act (HR 3010)
