Steven was the first in his family to attend college, thanks to the help of a local middle school teacher who held out a helping hand and a scholarship that made the impossible a reality. College education, tech school or post-secondary skills training are necessary tools to equip our workforce to compete for high-paying jobs in today's global economy.
As Majority Leader, Steven worked to change the funding formula for our College's and high education institutions. In Congress, Steven will fight to:
Protect funding for Pell grants and hold financial institutions and lenders more accountable;
Keep tuition low so working families can afford to send their kids to college, and;
Position community colleges in Nevada as skills centers and establish workforce surveys to link workers with the private sector based on skill sets, training and retraining;
Keep interest rates low so more students can afford to attend and stay in college.
