Issue Position: Traditional Marriage

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012
Issues: Marriage

Congressman Marchant believes that marriage is defined as the sacred union of one man and one woman. Unfortunately, unelected and unaccountable activist judges are trying to radically redefine marriage by judicial fiat. As a result, Congressman Marchant strongly supports legislation that strengthens and protects traditional marriage and pushes back against activist judges.

Each year he has served in Congress, Congressman Marchant has been recognized by Family Research Council with their "True Blue" award for his extraordinary leadership and commitment to pro-life and pro-family policies.

While serving in the Texas House of Representatives, Representative Marchant was honored as "Top Pro-Family Legislator of the Year" by the American Family Association for his consistent record of supporting pro-family legislation.

Congressman Marchant voted for H.J. Res. 88, which proposed an amendment to the Constitution providing that marriage in the United States consists only of the union of one man and one woman.

Congressman Marchant cosponsored H.J. Res. 54, which declares disapproval of the District of Columbia's decision to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.
