Solution: Stop the use of eminent domain used by non-elected boards and commissions.
I am against the use of eminent domain by federal, state, and local governments in terms of taking land from private individual property owners and private business owners, to use it for government needs, against the will of the people. I have recent experience in terms of fighting the use of eminent domain power by a local un-elected/appointed board, in regards to a wasteful Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system locally referred to as EmX. The plan is to use over $70 million+ in Federal Transportation Administration money, matched with $30 million in State of Oregon Lottery funds to build a 4 mile section of the EmX system. State of Oregon Lottery funds were originally meant for schools. The un-elected/appointed Lane Transit District Board has chosen to move forward with the project, and use its power of eminent domain to take business property, if necessary. This BRT project is only one part of a future planned 60 mile project, costing the taxpayers more money. My question is, "Where is the accountability?"
