Turner Statement on Fast and Furious Contempt Vote

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Mike Turner released the following statement upon the announcement that on Wednesday, June 20th, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will convene to consider a report holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for his failure to produce documents specified in the Committee's October 12, 2011, subpoena. Turner is a senior member of the committee which has broad oversight and investigational responsibility.

"Attorney General Holder has been given ample time and a number of opportunities to present the documents in question. The time for stalling has passed. If the Attorney General does not provide the documents as requested by the time of Wednesday's vote, I will join my colleagues in voting in favor of the contempt resolution. Americans expect their Government to be open, honest, and forthright both in times of success, and as in this case, deep failure. This vote is one which seeks to provide the accountability required of those who serve in public office."
