Owens Announces USDA Funding for Jefferson and Lewis Counties

Press Release

Date: June 6, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bill Owens announced today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has made funding available to the Jefferson County Local Development Corporation and the Lewis County Industrial Development Agency to promote economic development in the region.

"This funding is critical as we work to improve the region's economy," said Owens. "Responsible investments like these are what local small business owners and job creators need to lead the charge to put New Yorkers back to work."

Jefferson County will receive $99,000 in rural development funds to fund the purchase of distillery equipment for the Clayton Distillery. First of its kind in the area, the distillery will use locally grown grains to produce a variety of gin, vodka, whisky, bourbon and brandies.

The Lewis County IDA will receive $90,000 to fund a revolving loan program that will provide low interest loans to small and emerging businesses in the county.
