Nugent Sends Letter to US Army Corps Regarding Jobs Created by Sunwest Park and Channel Project

Press Release

Date: June 8, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Regarding the letter that Rep. Gus Bilirakis (FL-09), Rep. C.W. Bill Young (FL-10), and Rep. Rich Nugent (FL-05) sent to the Army Corps of Engineers this morning, Rep. Nugent issued the following statement:

"The Sunwest Park and Channel Project is about two things: jobs and public access to the Gulf. The county has spent six years undergoing scientific studies and analysis, and despite this rigorous review, the project appears to be held up because the criteria for evaluation keep changing.

"What we are asking the Army Corps to do is to ensure that Pasco County is being treated fairly and evaluated with the same criteria that have been used for other similar projects along the coast.

"It is clear that Pasco has reviewed all of the available options along the entire stretch of Pasco coastline and their proposed location would clearly have the smallest possible impact on the marine environment. The Governor and the Cabinet unanimously support the project. And frankly, with all of that in mind, I'm not sure what else the Army Corps can ask them to do."
