Speaker Emeritus Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) recently announced the endorsement of Congressman Henry Waxman (D-CA) in her bid to represent the people of the 33rd Congressional District. A Congressman since 1975, Waxman chairs the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

"Karen Bass has been an exceptional public servant. Her body of work--from community organizer to Speaker of the California Assembly--makes her an ideal candidate to represent California's 33rd Congressional District. She has delivered results to her constituents, and brought about the kind of positive change our community has called for. I am proud to endorse her for the 33rd Congressional District seat."

"I am honored that Congressman Henry Waxman has endorsed my candidacy," said Bass. "He is a prominent leader both nationally and within Los Angeles. He is a leader dedicated to moving our city, state and country forward. Should the voters approve, I am excited to have the opportunity to work alongside Mr. Waxman on important issues such as financial reform and healthcare implementation."

As Speaker, Bass was able to deliver bipartisan results such as protecting 600,000 children from losing their health care, restoring the governor's cuts to domestic violence programs and helping Californians remain eligible for continued federal unemployment benefits.

Under Bass' leadership the Assembly fast-tracked federal economic stimulus legislation that aided Californians who have been affected by the national economic crisis as well as jumpstarted billions of dollars of infrastructure projects across the state.

Bass has also been endorsed by the Honorable Diane Watson, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the National Women's Political Caucus, and many other elected officials and organizations including EMILY's list.
