Congressional Candidate Karen Bass Secures Support from L.A. Area Ministers

Today Speaker Emeritus Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) announced recent endorsements from prominent Los Angeles area ministers in her bid for the 33rd Congressional seat.

"I am thankful to have the support of these influential faith leaders," said Bass. "Their endorsement of my candidacy illustrates our united efforts to deliver results. I look forward to continuing the close relationship I have with all of our community's faith leaders--working to facilitate positive change."

Endorsing Bass are: Bass' own minister Rev. Dr. Norman Johnson, Rev. Vernon Burroughs, Rev. Kelvin Calloway, Rev. William Monroe Campbell, Rev. Marvis Davis, Dr. William Epps, Rev. Nirvana Earl Gayle, Rev. Sherman Gordon, Dr. Benjamin Hardwick, Rev. Paul Hill, Rev. Dr. John Hunter, Sr., Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, and Bishop Henry Williamson.

Bass also announced endorsements from Rev. Charles Dorsey, Rev. Ron Hayes, Rev. Leonard Jackson, Rev. Jim Jones, Bishop Roy Pettit, Rev. K.W. Tulloss, Dr. Patrick Ross, Dr. Velma Union, and Rev. Sylvester Washington.

As Speaker, Bass was able to deliver bipartisan results such as protecting 600,000 children from losing their health care, restoring the governor's cuts to domestic violence programs and helping Californians remain eligible for continued federal unemployment benefits.

Under Bass' leadership the Assembly fast-tracked federal economic stimulus legislation that aided Californians who have been affected by the national economic crisis as well as jumpstarted billions of dollars of infrastructure projects across the state.

Bass has also been endorsed by the Honorable Diane Watson, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the National Women's Political Caucus, and many other elected officials and organizations including EMILY's list.
