Issue Position: Priorities

Issue Position

It was not long ago that a bipartisan consensus existed for public sector investments in America's future. From the G.I. Bill to Pell Grants, from the Interstate Highway system to rural electricity, we defined our nation's future through a united vision for progress. Unfortunately, today some in Washington have forgotten that public investments in America pay off for all of us. Instead of investing in student loans or tax incentives for small businesses and working families, Washington is giving more tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy and sweetheart deals to Wall Street. Instead of shared prosperity, we have entered an era of selfish greed where people at the top grab everything they can for themselves and forget about the rest of us.

As a working Mom, I am committed to bringing a fresh voice to Congress that will better represent the needs of working families. My priorities are to bring new businesses and high-wage jobs -- particularly jobs to rebuild our infrastructure -- back to Southern Indiana; increase opportunities for job training and retraining for those who have lost their jobs; support excellence in education for our children and schools; insure that all families have access to quality, affordable medical care; and to protect Social Security for our parents and grandparents. Moreover, I am committed to seeking ways to end the scandal of child poverty.
