Every American deserves equal protection under the law. For that reason, Kathleen is committed to ending discrimination. Kathleen will develop and expand the Civil Rights Enforcement Section of the Attorneys General's Office. Her goal is to ensure that all Pennsylvanians are treated equally without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, or economic status.
Kathleen is extremely grateful for our veterans' generous service. She believes that the men and women who serve our country and their families need to be honored for their sacrifices. Kathleen will expand the Civil Rights Enforcement Section of the Attorney General's office to include its service to veterans. She will use the office to educate current and former members of the military about their rights and benefits under Pennsylvania law. She will support the laws that protect members of the military from job loss, help them file claims for compensation and pension benefits and help ensure that veteran's medical benefits are being met and the families of our fallen heroes are treated respectfully. She also recognizes that as our soldiers return home, they may have special needs that require a different approach. She will create a specialized unit to study, create and implement targeted programs to ensure justice for members of our armed services.
People with Disabilities
Accessing public buildings is often difficult for people with disabilities. Retailers and all public space holders should be held accountable for ensuring that their stores are handicap accessible. Kathleen will actively seek to protect the rights of people with disabilities and will pursue any violations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Environmental Barriers Act.
